Lunds universitet, Department of Laboratory Medicine
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top universities. The University has around 46 000 students and 8 500 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
The Experimental Oncology research group at the Division of Translational Cancer Research, Lund University, led by Professor Kristian Pietras, is driven by the conviction that a tumor is a communicating organ composed of multiple cell types that jointly evolve into the lethal disease cancer. Tumors are heterogeneous and contain malignant cells with varying proliferative and metastatic potential. Although it is well established that the tumor microenvironment plays a critical role in tumor growth and progression, our knowledge of heterogeneity within the stromal cell populations of tumors remains limited.
Our strategy combines high-resolution studies of fundamental biological concepts with the use of advanced cancer mouse models and unique clinical patient material to investigate the role of the microenvironment in cancer initiation, progression, and resistance to therapy.
Lund University is a public authority, which means that you are entitled to special benefits, generous annual leave, and a favorable occupational pension. Read more about working at Lund University on the university's website.
As part of ongoing research activities, we are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to conduct studies investigating the molecular mechanisms of cancer development, with a particular focus on the tumor microenvironment in brain tumors.
Requirements for the position:
A PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant field
Research experience in a relevant area, particularly studies of blood vessels and stromal cells, documented by publications in well-recognized scientific journals
Experience working with experimental animal models and genetically modified mice, documented by publications in well-recognized scientific journals
Experience with intravital imaging techniques using two-photon microscopy, documented by publications in well-recognized scientific journals
Experience supervising Master's level students
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability in the selection process
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, the applicant must hold a PhD degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a PhD in a subject area relevant to the position (i.e. biology, biomedicine, medicine, or chemistry). The degree must have been awarded no more than three years prior to the date of the employment decision. In special circumstances, the degree may have been awarded earlier.
