Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics. Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at ki.se/en/meb.
We are looking for a postdoc to join our research group of aging and neuroepidemiology, which is involved in a wide variety of research projects, including molecular and genetic epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, as well as twin and family studies. The group contains about 20 people – from professor to PhD- and master students – with several different PI´s collaborating on many research topics.
The postdoctoral candidate will focus on a research project on epilepsy, which is the most common chronic neurologic disease. Much remains to be understood about its causes, and molecular basis for disease onset and progression.
The successful applicant will analyze register, lifestyle and omics data collected from multiple nationwide sources in various observational designs, which include but are not limited to case-control, longitudinal, family-based, and genetically informed designs, to enable causal inference about the roles of an array of lifestyle factors and biomarkers and risk factors/disease progression of epilepsy.
Your role will include participating in all parts of the scientific process: performing literature searches, planning research studies, conducting data management and statistical analysis, and disseminating research findings. You will also be involved in supervising students and supporting grant applications and project implementation.
The ideal postdoctoral candidate will have a PhD in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline. A strong interest in neurological disease is a prerequisite and knowledge in this field is meritorious.
You should have high skills in statistical analyses and experience of analyzing both conventional epidemiological and molecular data. Expertise in statistical software programs (for example R, SAS or STATA) for data analysis is important, and experience in handling large amounts of register data is meritorious.
You should have high skills in scientific writing and be fluent in written and spoken English.
We attach great importance to personal qualities in this recruitment. As a person, you are highly motivated and have high analytical skills. You should be able to work independently, but also to collaborate well with others.
To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage.
