Research Scientist Ms&T Laboratory

As a Research Scientist in the Laboratory of Production Sciences and Technology (MS&T), you will plan, conduct, and interpret scientific experiments on a small, development scale to support the production of lentiviral (LVV) and adenoviral (AAV) vectors for new cell and gene therapies (CGT). In the MS&T laboratory, we perform development activities under non-GMP conditions on equipment that mimics the production plant on a laboratory scale.

Activities we perform:

• Process development/scale-down: Design and optimization of production processes.
• Process transfers from another production site or from development.
• Process validation: Conducting studies to prove that production processes consistently produce products of desired quality.
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving in the biotechnological process.

This position is located in Mengeš, Slovenia. Novartis does not provide relocation support for this role, so we ask that only candidates who are local to this location apply.

Your key responsibilities:

• Planning, execution, and interpretation of DSP experiments in the laboratory on a smaller, development scale with FPLC equipment and various ultrafiltration/diafiltration systems.
• Planning, coordination, and execution of studies related to the processing of viral vectors, such as chromatographic purification (affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography…), ultrafiltration/diafiltration, viral filtration, ultracentrifugation…
• Use of basic statistical tools for planning and interpreting research (DOE, ANOVA, linear regression).
• Qualification of scale-down models of production.
• Collaboration in troubleshooting in production.
• Implementation of new technologies, equipment, approaches to improve biotechnological processes.
• Collaboration with various teams within the company (development/procurement/production/engineering).
• Support in planning team activities, project management, and prioritization of activities.

Your contribution to the job:

• At least a master's degree in natural sciences (biotechnology, microbiology, pharmacy, etc.) with experience in production or development of biological processes. A doctorate in natural sciences is desirable.
• At least 2 years of DSP experience in the role of a researcher in production/MS&T/technical development/academia.
• Proven experience working with FPLC and UFDF systems.
• Self-motivation, motivation, good collaboration skills, and teamwork.
