UCL's Institute of Cardiovascular Science is based at Torrington Place, London. Our overall mission is to improve the lives, health and wellbeing through world-class patient centred research, education and public engagement. As a world-class centre of excellence, UCL ICS is focussed on developing novel preventative and therapeutic strategies in cardiovascular medicine. This involves using novel deep phenotyping techniques to identify children and adolescents at increased risk of sudden cardiac death. Studies will focus on the effects of mental stress and also neuromodulation devices – primarily Tragus nerve stimulation which is being used to treat heart rhythm disorders and heart failure.
This post is funded for 6 months in the first instance. We are recruiting a research assistant to contribute to the development of combined heart-brain studies in experiments involving ECG Imaging (ECGI) and functional MRI studies of the brain. Experiments will be conducted in human subjects involving mental stress and tragus nerve stimulation.
The research assistant will ideally have experience in ECG signals and MRI data collection in human subjects. The research assistant will recruit participants and patients to the study and collect data during the ECGI and MRI experiments which will primarily take place in the Bloomsbury Centre for Clinical Phenotyping, UCL. Experiments will involve utilization of an ECG Imaging vest and functional MRI. Participants will undergo mental stress tests and also Tragus nerve stimulation inside and outside the MRI scanner.
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:
