This position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day, with the possibility of extension.
Location – This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The candidate will work under the supervision of the principal investigator on various stroke studies, including but not limited to Act-Global and CoPrime. The candidate must be able to recruit study participants and complete follow-up visits in a timely manner. This would include consenting participants, administration of questionnaires, and conduct chart reviews to gather study data from the EMR system. They will be required to interact with participants, family members, along with University and Alberta Health Services staff. The candidate must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills to assist with a wide range of clinical research activities. In this position, the Research Assistant must be able to work independently to organize and perform the day-to-day operations of the research studies and knowledge translation. This may include but is not limited to: recruiting participants; coordinating participant research visits; collecting data via questionnaires, cognitive assessments, and other data-gathering processes as required; recording data in local and shared databases; drafting ethics applications and providing ongoing written and oral communication with the Research Ethics Board, NACTRC, and the sponsors; monitoring study progress; assisting with manuscript preparation and submission; and responding to inquiries pertaining to research received from the public and other healthcare providers.
Reviews and adheres to multiple research protocols
Coordinate protocol related research procedures, study visits, and follow-up care, including administering cognitive tests, study questionnaires, and other data-gathering processes
Organizes hardcopy and computer tiles related to ongoing studies
Records, accesses and transfers data from medical records to electronic databases
Assist systematic reviews by screening and extracting data from research articles
Provides administrative support for grant applications, presentations, publications, reports and other program based initiatives
With the assistance of PI and other research personnel, edits and updates ethics applications for the Health Research Ethics Board pertaining to submissions, amendments
Self-monitor and self-audit responsibilities
Prepare and submit operational approvals
Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities including assisting the PI to assure that only qualified individuals perform study related procedures with the appropriate level of supervision under the policies set forth by the University of Alberta
Current enrollment in post-secondary education of a Bachelor's degree is preferred
Experience with patient interaction and administration of questionnaires, dealing with patients, responding to study-related questions in-person as well as on the telephone
Experience in data management
Intermediate level competency with MS Office (Word and Excel) and Adobe
Excellent organizational, analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills
Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, time lines and a flexible work schedule
Ability to work efficiently and in a professional and ethical manner
Ability to work independently as well as with others on a team
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, team work and organizational skills
Working knowledge of EEG and fNIRS data acquisition is preferred.
