We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Laboratory Assistant with exceptional attention to detail to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary research group at the forefront of regenerative medicine and advanced therapeutic development. This part-time role offers the opportunity to contribute to several world-class initiatives focused on engineering autologous tissue-engineered organs, including oesophagus, gut, lung, and liver, using cutting-edge stem cell, biomaterial, bioreactor, and next-generation organoid technologies. As a key member of the team, the postholder will provide essential day-to-day support to ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of a busy research laboratory. Responsibilities include maintaining core laboratory functions, supporting scientific projects. The position is available immediately and funded part-time (up to 60% FTE) for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension until 30 November 2027, supported by the NIHR GOSH BRC. The postholder will be based at the Zayed Centre for Research within the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, working fully on site. Full training and support will be provided, including training in in-house pipelines. The post-holder will be line managed by Professor Paolo De Coppi. This post is funded for 12 months in the firsts instance.
Candidates should have a BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant biomedical discipline and hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment. They should bring strong organizational and recordkeeping skills, excellent attention to detail, and a solid understanding of laboratory health and safety practices. Strong IT proficiency and the ability to manage inventory, prepare reagents, and support general laboratory operations are essential. Candidates will be effective team players with good communication and problem-solving skills, able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary research environment. The role requires the ability to prioritize tasks, maintain tidy workspaces, and safely handle lifting or moving laboratory items. Experience with basic equipment maintenance and knowledge of cell biology or tissue culture principles would be an advantage.
