An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join Professor David Withers' group at the Oxford Centre for Immuno-Oncology. This role will contribute to cutting-edge research exploring anti-tumour immune responses and the mechanisms that suppress them within the tumour microenvironment. Combining experimental and computational approaches, the work will utilise advanced in vivo models, high-dimensional flow cytometry, immunofluorescence imaging, and single-cell RNA sequencing to better understand immune cell dynamics in cancer.
You will support a range of research projects within the group, contributing to both wet-lab experiments and bioinformatics analysis. This includes analysing in vivo experiments, performing complex flow cytometry and immunofluorescence studies, and undertaking detailed single-cell RNA-sequencing data analysis using high-performance computing resources. You will work collaboratively with other researchers, contribute to publications and presentations, support lab operations, and help develop and refine analysis pipelines and experimental approaches.
It is essential that you hold a degree in biomedical sciences or a related discipline, with experience in immunology and/or cancer immunology. You will bring expertise in immunofluorescence imaging, including spatial analysis of immune cells, and experience with single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis using Python and high-performance computing. You will also have experience in flow cytometry, cancer cell culture, and working with murine tissues, alongside knowledge of temporal labelling models to study immune cell dynamics. You will be highly organised, able to manage your own workload, and confident communicating complex scientific findings both in writing and in person. A strong interest in myeloid biology and developing bioinformatics pipelines would be advantageous.
Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
