Research Assistant Position

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Assistant to join the Nixon-Abell Laboratory at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. Our work sits at the interface between cell biology and molecular neuroscience. We employ integrated experimental approaches to understand organelle interactions and dynamics in neurons, and how they are corrupted in neurodegenerative diseases.

The successful candidate will work on their own dedicated research project, with the goal of producing rigorous and impactful research and publications. The candidate will form part of a vibrant and interdisciplinary team and receive expert training and guidance to develop skills in stem cell culture, neuronal differentiation, molecular biology, CRISPR engineering, and advanced microscopy.

All applicants must hold at minimum an MSc/MPhil with wet lab research experience. Prior work in neurobiology and neurodegenerative disease is preferable.

The Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and it is a collaborative institute at the interface between fundamental research and the clinic, with a mission to determine the molecular mechanisms of disease in order to advance human health. This is a full-time position for 3 years, with the possibility of carrying out a PhD (subject to all admission criteria for postgraduate students being fulfilled) from Autumn 2026 in parallel to this role.
