We are seeking an enthusiastic Research Assistant to undertake cell processing and immunophenotyping for the Cambridge Human Immunology Platform (CHIP). Working closely with the NIHR Cambridge BRC Cell Phenotyping Hub, CHIP aims to provide services including cell and tissue processing, cell sorting, cell and tissue imaging, and cell phenotyping, all within a quality-assured environment, to scientists across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and beyond.
The Role
The successful applicant will join a motivated team who are making a significant contribution to translational biomedical research at the University of Cambridge. With the opportunity to help grow the range of studies that CHIP supports, this service-based role will involve extensive cell processing, but with the exciting opportunity to gain in-depth experience in phenotyping and cytomics, using both conventional and spectral technologies. You will also support operations through general laboratory duties and the daily work of CHIP and will assist with the delivery of new antibody panels and assays, as required. Adhering to and supporting the quality assurance system that CHIP works to is central to all work carried out.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have experience in cellular, immunological, and molecular methods. They will have a qualification (BSc level or equivalent) in a relevant scientific subject or be able to demonstrate an equivalent amount of relevant practical experience, for example in a biomedical CL2 laboratory. This will ideally include experience working in a quality assured environment, and familiarity with working to standard operating procedures to generate consistent and reproducible data. Experience in providing service to other teams is a plus. Hands-on experience of cell processing, cytometry and sorting is highly advantageous, but training will be provided. The ability to learn advanced technologies, operate complex biomedical equipment and trouble-shoot problems, as well as team ability, a flexible approach to work and readiness to work to the lab operational pattern are essential criteria.
Fixed Term: The funds for this position are available for two years in the first instance
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
