Research Assistant (Mathematics/Computer Science/Statistics) Full-time

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Key Job Purpose:

We have an opening for the position of “Research Assistant” for a research project related to statistical learning of time-series models. The successful candidate will work with Hemant Tyagi (NTU Singapore) and Chew Lock Yue (NTU Singapore) in collaboration with Ernesto Araya (LMU Munich) on extending our recent work on matching correlated VAR time-series models. The duration of this project is expected to be between 4-6 months and could potentially lead to a PhD position at SPMS in NTU Singapore (based on performance).

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the development of algorithms
• Develop codebase in Python and perform large-scale simulations on synthetic/real data sets
• Report the findings in the form of a report/article, with the aim of publishing in ML journal/conference

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's in Mathematics/Computer Science/Statistics or related fields
• Strong background in probability and statistics as evidenced by coursework
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Good knowledge of Python
• Good interpersonal skills
