Postdoctoral Research Associate

Europe's top cancer charity, Cancer Research UK, has combined with the University of Cambridge to fund the world class Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, situated on the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus in Cambridge. As part of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, the Institute's research ranges from basic biology through translational cancer research to clinical application. The Institute currently houses over 400 researchers and support staff with 22 research groups. It provides a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, with state-of-the-art facilities and core scientific resources, and good links with the scientific community of Cambridge.

We are looking to recruit a highly enthusiastic and motivated full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the group of Prof. Greg Hannon. Prof Hannon and his laboratory are internationally recognised for their contributions to small RNA pathways, cancer biology and mammalian genomics. The Research Associate will join the piRNA team within the Hannon lab, led by Dr Ben Nicholson.

The successful candidate will contribute to a programme of work investigating piRNAs, transposons and chromatin biology. In the piRNA team we seek to understand many aspects of small RNAs, including how genomic loci are defined as piRNA sources, how their products are fated for processing, and how Piwi-piRNA complexes direct co-transcriptional silencing of target loci.

The successful candidate will have (or about to receive) a PhD in a relevant discipline with a good record of research experience and publications. A minimum of three years research experience in piRNA biology (Drosophila or murine pathway) is essential. The candidate must have expertise in a variety of laboratory research approaches including molecular biology, imaging, genomics, biochemistry, tissue culture/CRISPR, as well as proven expertise in computational data analysis, including (small) RNA-seq analysis. Experience of in vivo mouse or fly experiments are essential.

The role holder must display an ability to manage their own research, involving data collection and analysis, methods development, interaction with the core facilities and coordination of multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. In addition the appointed candidate manages administrative activities and works independently as well as interacts well in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team environment.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
