Research Engineer

The Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL) represents a key collaboration between Alibaba Group and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Supported by the Singapore RIE2025 Fund, ANGEL creates and deploys impactful green digital technologies for global sustainability.

We are looking for a research engineer to work on multimodal foundation model development. The role will focus on computer vision, multimodal image analysis and understanding, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

1. To independently undertake research in multimodal foundation modeling, document image analysis and understanding, OCR and key information extraction.
2. To produce research reports and/or publications as required by the funding body or for dissemination to the wider academic community.
3. To provide guidance and support to any students associated with the project.
4. To attend, contribute, and where necessary lead relevant meetings.
5. To undertake any other duties relevant to the programme of research.

Job Requirements:

Qualification:

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electronics engineering or equivalent.
• Strong background and experience in machine learning and computer vision. Prior experience in multimodal foundation models is preferable.
• Strong coding skills in scientific or engineering software like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.
• Proven research ability as evidenced through a portfolio of publications and/or conference papers and/or relevant project experience.

Additional criteria:

• Strong background in R&D with self-motivation and initiative. Ability to develop and manage R&D projects with good understanding of industrial needs.
• In-depth knowledge relevant to the project domain.
• Demonstrated capability to conduct innovative research.
• The ability and willingness to adapt and incorporate novel ideas and approaches in scientific industry.
• Demonstrated ability to formulate hypothesis and design effective experimental plans.
• Ability to design and implement new experimental methods.
• High-level expertise in the required experiment or modelling methods.
• Good knowledge in laboratory work as well as engineering of prototype system.
• Assist in postgraduate student supervision.
• Ability to initiate collaboration research in multidisciplinary team.
• Oversee and report project progress.
