ERI@N has multiple interdisciplinary research programs which focus on translational research, development, and deployment which focus on a specific area of the energy value chain and a number of living labs and testbeds which facilitate large-scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications. As a research engineer II at ERI@N, you will be at the forefront of our microgrid technology and clean energy solution development efforts, responsible for designing, testing, power, and energy management systems.
Key responsibilities include: designing, maintaining, and operating SCADA applications, GUI/HMI, PLC programs, and edge devices. Creating APIs for cloud applications. Digitally integrating new assets, testing, and commissioning hardware and software applications for microgrid field operations. Reviewing detailed electrical power systems drawings submitted by contractors and ensuring safe and reliable operation of the testbed. Managing the electrical system operations and supporting the project milestones of the NTU testbed sites (for example; NTU campus, Jurong Island, Semakau Landfill) and liaising with industry partners, vendors, licensed electrical workers, or qualified practitioners on topics that involve 400V/6.6kV MW-scale distribution network. Leading the necessary measures to maintain and improve the overall electrical system safety of the testbed. Regularly supervising contractors at project sites in order to meet regulatory and compliance requirements. Carrying out field/site activities located both in NTU and out of it as required.
Job requirements include a bachelor's/master's degree in electrical engineering with specialization in power systems or automation and control. Three to five years of relevant experiences in a similar role/technical hands-on experience. Expertise in electrical system design and analysis with standard industry tools such as AutoCAD. Proficiency with grid communication protocols (Modbus TCP, IEC61850, DNP3) for smartgrid power and energy management systems. Proficiency in Singapore standard code of practices for electrical installations, solar inverters, ESS, and EV chargers. Experience in PLC programming is advantageous. Experience in site supervision & contract works related to electric utility industry, preferably in the area of distribution system network, power system protection & switchgear (ABB, Schneider). Prior experience in dealing with government agencies regarding the electrical installation licensing for solar, ESS, diesel storage, and hydrogen storage. Experience in troubleshooting, isolation, and resolution of electrical system issues. An effective team player with good written, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently/develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous and eye for details/excellent organizational/time management skills.
