The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.
We are looking for a Research Engineer II to work on a pioneering project on sustainable materials for colouring applications. The role will focus on accelerating lab-to-market impact through greener synthesis, cost-efficient process optimisation, rigorous safety validation, and industry collaboration to enable real-world integration of the materials into existing formulations spanning from advanced coatings to novel consumer products.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments to synthesise and characterise novel compounds. This research will involve a combination of organic and synthetic chemistry techniques to create materials with superior optical properties and versatile colour tunability.
Key responsibilities include synthesising compounds and evaluating their optical properties. The candidate will assess the success of these materials through optical, structural and chemical analysis.
In addition to hands-on laboratory work, the Research Engineer II will collaborate with cross-functional teams, integrating findings into broader product development initiatives. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in organic chemistry, particularly in the synthesis and characterisation of organic compounds. Proficiency in optical property evaluation and related analytical methods is essential.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, where your contributions will directly impact the development of innovative products. We are looking for a passionate scientist who is eager to push the boundaries of current technology and drive advancements in the field of photochromic materials.
