Research engineer in limnology/aquatic ecology
The Department of Ecology and Genetics is an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. Our research spans a wide range of topics, from evolutionary ecology and genetics to ecosystem studies.
We are now seeking a Research Engineer in Limnology/Aquatic Ecology for the department's research programme in Limnology and the field station Erken Laboratory; see Erken Laboratory is part of the Swedish infrastructure for Ecosystem Science (SITES) and coordinates the thematic programme SITES AquaNet. SITES AquaNet is a standardized and harmonized infrastructure for aquatic mesocosm experiments with installations at several SITES stations.
In 2026, we plan to implement an experiment focusing on effects of terrestrial inputs of mineral particles on carbon and nutrient transformations, food web dynamics and metabolism across lakes.
The position is placed at the Limnology Programme in Uppsala, but some working tasks will also be located at the Erken field station close to Norrtälje. Shorter visits to other SITES AquaNet stations will also be part of the position.
Duties The candidate will be involved in the coordination, preparation and implementation of the distributed mesocosm experiment that will investigate effects of terrestrial inputs of mineral particles in lakes. This also includes the coordination of measurements that are carried out in a standardized way across experiments. Further, sample and data management, field measurements as well as administrative duties such as communication with visiting researchers and students, ordering of materials, organization of a sample archive and other related tasks are also part of the position.
Qualifications required An academic degree in ecology, limnology or related disciplines. Previous experience with field measurements and/or experiments in aquatic systems related to effects of terrestrial organic matter on aquatic communities. Previous experience working with laboratory and mesocosm experiments connected to the topic of the planned experiment is required. The candidate should be an independent, practical, flexible and well-organized person with excellent communication and project management skills. The candidate needs to work accurately to meet the high-quality standards within SITES. Candidates must be able to express themselves fluently in spoken as well as written English. Experience in using R for data analyses is required.
Qualifications desired A PhD degree in limnology or a related field, research experience in microbial ecology, including amplicon sequencing. Driving license.
Salary Individual salary.
Starting date 2026-05-01, or as agreed.
Position The position is available until 2026-07-31.
