The Translational Cardiovascular Imaging Group at the University of Texas at Austin, led by Dr. Adam Bush, PhD is seeking to fill a post-baccalaureate research specialist position. The research specialist will contribute to translational medical imaging research focused on renal and cardiovascular physiology and disease. This role involves conducting research, supporting laboratory operations, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities include analyzing physiologic, imaging, blood, and urine data in both computational and wet lab settings; conducting research involving MRI, ultrasound, and physiologic data acquisition in human subjects including participant recruitment, screening, and informed consent processes; assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of imaging study protocols; collecting, processing, and managing imaging and clinical data, including maintaining anonymized databases; performing imaging studies, including evening, night, and/or weekend MRI sessions; developing and implementing data analysis tools using MATLAB and/or Python; preparing manuscripts and presenting research findings at scientific conferences; performing imaging and mechanical testing on biological tissues (animal and human); participating in weekly research meetings and contributing to project discussions; providing guidance and support to other laboratory members on related projects; coordinating research activities in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations; and maintaining and preparing IRB protocols and regulatory documentation.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Biology, Neuroscience or other related field; demonstrated interest in physiology and translational medical imaging in humans; experience with MATLAB and/or Python; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively; professionalism and maturity when working with vulnerable patient populations; and an excellent team player that can work in teams and independently. Ability to pass a mandatory background check and drug screening is also required.
Salary range is $45,000+ depending on qualifications.
Work is performed in a combination of laboratory, clinical, and office environments, including the UT Austin Main Campus, Dell Seton Medical Center, and Dell Children's Medical Center. Responsibilities may involve interaction with human subjects, handling biological samples, and operating imaging equipment. Work shift is primarily Monday–Friday; additional evening, night, and/or weekend hours required for MRI study sessions.
