The Lung Cancer Prevention Laboratory, run by Dr Deborah Caswell is situated within UCL Respiratory, a department within the Division of Medicine at UCL. UCL Respiratory has a comprehensive laboratory suite. The laboratory includes tissue culture facilities for experimental work with cancer cell lines, and the recently refurbished department also included a comprehensive histology facility and microscope suite. Our laboratory through a collaboration with Professor Janes laboratory, has access to samples from two unparalleled studies, SUMMIT and ASCENT (samples from 13000 participants with a high risk of lung cancer and 500 patients with lung cancers). Our laboratory also has access to unique preclinical models including novel humanized lung cancer mouse models with APOBEC3 gene expression, as well as a large panel of transplantable EGFR mutant mouse lung cancer cell lines, and human lung cancer cell lines. These are cutting edge models that are not available anywhere else in the world.
In this post the successful candidate will be utilizing a new humanized APOBEC3 mouse model to delineate the role of APOBEC3 enzymes in the early stages of lung tumorigenesis in a never smoker EGFR mutant lung cancer mouse model. The successful candidate will determine which and at what stages APOBEC3 enzymes are expressed during tumorigenesis, how this expression affects both mutational and structural damage to the tumour DNA, as well as immune microenvironmental changes induced by APOBEC3 enzyme expression. Overall, the candidate is expected to plan and conduct a high-quality research programme ensuring the delivery of key project milestones with the aim to write and publish high quality research papers. This post is funded for 3 years, with support for postdoctoral fellowship applications and potential for extension. The successful candidate will be based in the UCL Respiratory Department. This post is suitable for sponsorship.
The successful applicant will be expected to fulfill following: To plan and conduct a high quality programme of research, including ensuring the completion of a number of deliverables and milestones related to the project. To write an publish high quality papers To work closely with other members of the laboratory and collaborators To perform systematic reviews of the literature They will also have PhD in a relevant biological science subject Evidence of carrying out independent, original research at a high level Strong working knowledge of animal models of lung cancer including viral induction of lung cancer mouse models.
