This is a postdoctoral researcher position to continue the host laboratory's work on novel therapies for airway junctional epidermolysis bullosa (JEB). The project will use innovative primary cell-based in vitro models to assess the potential of recombinant human laminin-332 to combat epithelial cell adhesion defects seen in JEB. The salary offered on this post is £45,103 per annum and is funded until 31/12/2026 in the first instance.
You will be a highly motivated and organised researcher who has recently completed (or is close to completing) a PhD in a relevant field such as cell biology, epithelial biology, regenerative medicine, or a related biomedical discipline. Your doctoral research will have provided substantial hands-on experience working with airway epithelial cell models, including advanced culture systems such as organoids and air–liquid interface (ALI) cultures. You will have strong practical skills in mammalian cell culture, ideally including extensive experience handling primary epithelial cells and maintaining complex epithelial culture models. You will be comfortable planning and managing experimental work independently, keeping clear and accurate records, and coordinating multiple experimental workflows. The successful candidate will bring excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem solving. You will also be able to work effectively within a collaborative research environment while taking ownership of your experiments and contributing to the development of the project. Experience relevant to epithelial stem cell biology, extracellular matrix biology, and/or airway disease models would be advantageous.
