The research group of Associate Professor Liu Xiaogang is seeking a motivated Research Fellow with expertise in computational chemistry and wet-lab experimentation. This position offers the opportunity to use advanced molecular modeling to understand and design organic luminescent molecules. The candidate will validate computational designs through chemical synthesis and comprehensive photophysical characterization, and apply the resulting dyes in bioimaging studies. The overarching goal is to establish robust molecular design principles for innovative fluorophores with tailored photophysical properties.
The research group of Associate Professor Liu Xiaogang is recruiting a Research Fellow to develop high-performance organic luminescent dyes for bioimaging.
The role bridges computational design and wet-lab validation to establish predictive structure–property relationships.
Perform quantum chemical calculations (e.g., DFT/TD-DFT) to interpret electronic structure and excited-state behavior.
Devise molecular design strategies to improve brightness, spectral properties, stability and environmental sensitivities.
Conduct organic synthesis, purification, and structural verification of target compounds.
Carry out photophysical characterization to validate predictions and refine models.
Evaluate dye performance in bioimaging assays and translate results into actionable design principles.
Prepare manuscripts/reports and contribute to collaborative, interdisciplinary projects.
PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
Strong track record in computational chemistry (DFT/TD-DFT; excited-state analysis) with proficiency in common QC software.
Demonstrated hands-on organic synthesis experience and competency in NMR, MS, and chromatographic purification.
Solid understanding of organic photophysics and structure–property relationship analysis.
Evidence of research productivity (peer-reviewed publications) and strong scientific writing/presentation skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple workstreams, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Bioimaging experience is advantageous but not essential.
