The UCL Institute for Global Health (IGH) is at the heart of UCL's Grand Challenge of Global Health. The Institute's vision is for a world where international policy on global health is informed by world class research. IGH aims to support the development of robust solutions to aspects of the world's major global health challenges through scholarly outputs, education, public engagement, translational research and ultimately by influencing public policy and professional practice.
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow in Global Mental Health.
The postholder will work with Dr Kelly Rose-Clarke and colleagues at Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Nepal to evaluate a school-based psychological intervention for adolescents with depression in Nepal using a realist cluster-randomised controlled trial design. We want to know if the intervention works, how, and for whom, to help us understand how it can be optimised and where it could be implemented.
The post holder will participate in clinical and research team meetings, oversee the reporting of adverse events and protocol changes to ethics committees and develop materials for the Trials Steering Committee and Data Monitoring Committee.
The post holder will have the opportunity to work with TPO Nepal, a leading global mental health organisation and to gain experience in conducting realist cluster randomised controlled trials and process evaluation.
The post holder will also have the opportunity to build skills in survey implementation, data management and governance, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
The position is based in London at the Institute for Global Health, University College London (UCL), with opportunities for hybrid work in line with UCL policy. The role will also involve at least one visit to Nepal for ~4-6 weeks.
This is a part-time role (i.e. 0.5 FTE, 18.25 hours per week) and it is available from 1 May 2026 until 31 July 2027.
Salary range: £45,103 to £52,586 per annum (including London Allowance) depending on experience, pro rata for part-time staff.
If you have any queries about the role, please contact Dr Kelly Rose Clarke at kelly.rose-clarke@ucl.ac.uk.
If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online or have any queries about the application process, please contact the IGH HR Team on IGH.HR@ucl.ac.uk.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in a relevant area (e.g. global mental health, global health, psychology, public health or epidemiology) or equivalent global health research experience.
The post holder must also have experience of conducting research with children/adolescents in the Global South, experience of writing peer-reviewed publications and a track record in global health research with interests in developing interventions, particularly community-based interventions.
