University College London (UCL) wishes to appoint a Research Fellow in Technological Innovation and Low-Carbon Transition. The post holder will be based at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, a world-leading faculty ranked #1 in the world for Built Environment studies and #1 in the UK for its research environment. The post holder will carry out research, and programme administration within the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction, in the field of technological innovation, climate change economics and energy policy, consistent with the vision and mission of the School. This is a fixed-term, full-time position to start 01 June 2026.
The project requires a candidate with insightful, reflective, and critical capabilities and knowledge of the life cycle assessment, techno-economic analysis and climate change policies. The candidate should master at least one programming language for data-driven analysis. Experience in techno-economic assessment (TEA) and forward-looking decarbonisation technology appraisal is desirable, including the ability to represent emerging options (e.g., direct air capture and hydrogen production and deployment) within scenario and pathway analysis frameworks. Strong academic writing skills are also essential to produce high-quality outputs such as policy briefs and to support engagement with policymakers and stakeholders. The successful candidate will be committed to rigorous research and development and will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will hold a good Bachelor's degree and a PhD in environmental geography, environmental science, economics, energy engineering, or a relevant built environment subject. The Research Fellow will work towards liaising with colleagues at UCL and across the consortium at all levels and in different business functions; a proactive approach and ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats is essential. They will have effective written and verbal communication skills; project management and implementation skills; administrative (e.g. time management, reporting) and IT skills (e.g. interface design and data analytics); and basic research skills and the ability to analyse and write up data.
