Research Fellow

Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications.

We are looking for a Research Fellow to advance the development of grid-forming converters and control algorithms for next-generation renewable and energy storage systems. The role will focus on control design, simulation, and experimental validation to support system stability, interoperability, and compliance with emerging grid standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop control algorithms for grid-forming converters.
• Conduct simulation and experimental validation using real-time and laboratory testbeds.
• Ensure system compliance with relevant standards and grid codes.
• Prepare technical reports and deliverables for project sponsors.
• Mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students involved in the project.
• Contribute to research publications and grant proposals.

Job Requirements:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with specialization in power electronics or converter control.
• Strong experience in converter design, control, and testing, preferably with grid-forming technologies.
• Proficiency in simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, or Altium Designer.
• Good understanding of grid codes, standards, and system integration of renewables or energy storage.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
