Research Fellow In Earthquake Monitoring

EOS is a University Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

The EOS invites applications for an outstanding Research Fellow with a strong background in earthquake monitoring. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to developing a machine-learning powered earthquake monitoring and early warning system. The role involves both independent and collaborative research to achieve project objectives, as well as the publication of high-impact journal articles that enhance the international standing of the University.

We are looking for a Research Fellow to develop and perform an AI-aided earthquake monitoring and warning system from detecting historic small earthquakes to alerting moderate-large earthquakes within the Singapore and its surrounding.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, and set up an AI-aided seismic monitoring system for earthquake monitoring and early warning
• Apply the developed system to the Singapore and its surrounding seismic data
• Publish high-impact research articles in leading international journals
• Assist in the preparation and development of competitive research proposals
• Support the supervision and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students

Job requirements include:

• PhD's degree in seismology and solid geophysics
• At least 2 years of relevant experiences in machine learning and earthquake monitoring
• Familiarity with related literature and software
• Good written and oral communication skills
