Research Officer at the Peter Doherty Institute

As a Research Officer at the Peter Doherty Institute, you will delve into cellular communication in human organs, focusing on bioinformatic analysis of spatial transcriptomic and multiplex imaging data. You will have the opportunity to develop and apply specialized experimental procedures, contributing to vital research that defines cell types and molecular interactions shaping human spleen function. Your responsibilities will include:

• Conduct innovative research: Assist with experiments and generate spatial transcriptomic and multiplexed imaging data from tissues.
• Advance computational analysis: Perform computational analysis, including cell segmentation, transcript assignment, and 3D spatial data analysis.
• Contribute to data visualization: Develop immersive data visualization platforms and maintain detailed records of experiments conducted.
• Engage with the research community: Assist with data preparation for publication and actively participate in departmental seminars and meetings.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a passionate researcher with a PhD in bioinformatics, data science, immunology, or cell biology, possessing strong organizational skills and expertise in computational analysis of spatial transcriptomic data.

You may also:

• Have expertise in computational analysis of spatial transcriptomic data.
• Have experience with image analysis tools, such as cell segmentation algorithms.
• Possess a strong publication record in the field.
• Demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively, with a strong ability to multitask.

The Doherty Institute is a world-class institute combining research in infectious disease and immunity with teaching excellence, reference laboratory diagnostic services, epidemiology, and clinical services. It is a joint venture between the University of Melbourne and Melbourne Health.

A new, purpose-built building for the Doherty Institute was completed in early 2014. The members of the Doherty include the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory of the University of Melbourne, the Victorian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance System, The Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory, The Victorian Infectious Diseases Service, and The World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza.
