Research Officer – ACBD

Monash University is seeking a Research Officer to join the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD) within the School of Translational Medicine, based at The Alfred Campus.

This fixed-term role offers an opportunity to play a central operational and experimental role within a growing translational leukaemia research program. The position is critical to the ongoing delivery of preclinical research activities and the establishment of robust experimental workflows supporting in vivo and molecular biology research.

Working closely with the Group Leader, researchers and students, you will contribute directly to high-quality experimental execution, development of SOPs, and maintenance of laboratory continuity. This role is well suited to a motivated research professional who enjoys hands-on experimental work, responsibility, and being an integral part of a small research team.

In this role, you will:

• Establish, document and maintain experimental workflows and SOPs supporting preclinical and in vivo research
• Perform in vivo drug studies, including animal monitoring, treatments, tissue collection and adherence to animal ethics requirements
• Conduct mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as flow cytometry, PCR, western blotting and related assays
• Support preparation, handling and monitoring of patient-derived samples where required
• Analyse, document and organise experimental data for support reporting and publications
• Contribute to literature reviews, documentation and laboratory records
• Provide day-to-day operational support to ensure continuity of laboratory activities
• Train and support students and junior researchers in experimental techniques where appropriate
• Ensure compliance with research protocols, ethics approvals, safety requirements and regulatory standards
• Participate in after-hours or weekend monitoring on a rostered basis when required for animal work

You are a reliable and organised research professional who values high-quality experimental practice and takes ownership of laboratory responsibilities. You enjoy working in a regulated research environment and contributing to a collaborative team.

You will bring:

• A degree in a relevant discipline with subsequent research experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Strong hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques
• Experience with in vivo research and animal experimentation, or a strong willingness to undertake training
• Excellent organisational skills, record-keeping and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team
• A demonstrated commitment to research integrity, safety and ethical conduct
