Research Officer – Australian Centre for Blood Diseases

The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is seeking a motivated Research Officer to support the operations of a leading epigenetics laboratory within the Blood Cancer Program at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases. Based at The Alfred Centre, this role will contribute directly to high-impact translational research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with haematological malignancies.

Working closely with the Laboratory Head and research team, you will undertake a broad range of experimental research activities and provide high-quality technical and administrative support to enable the successful delivery of program outcomes. This role is ideal for a graduate with a strong background in experimental medical research who is looking to further develop their skills in a dynamic, collaborative research environment.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking experimental, technical and administrative research activities
• Performing cell biology, molecular biology and biochemical techniques
• Working with haematological cancer cell lines and supporting in vivo mouse models
• Collecting, analysing and documenting research data and outcomes
• Ensuring compliance with research protocols, ethics, OHS and regulatory requirements
• Contributing to continuous improvement and quality assurance activities
• Communicating effectively with researchers, collaborators and stakeholders

You will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience (with Honours/Masters)
• Experience in experimental medical research, ideally in cancer or epigenetics
• Strong analytical, organisational and time management skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team
• High attention to detail and sound communication skills
• A flexible, proactive approach with willingness to develop new skills

Experience with CRISPR/Cas9, genetic screens or in vivo models is advantageous.
