Are you excited by building open, scalable, and cutting-edge software for multimodal biomedical imaging data, including the world highest resolution images of human organs? We are recruiting a Research Software Engineer /Senior Research Software Engineer in Bio-Imaging to join UCL's Multiscale X-ray Imaging (MXI) Lab and support the development of the Human Organ Atlas (HOA), created in partnership with the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble. You will be based at UCL's Bloomsbury Campus, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to build the computational tools that make large multimodal imaging datasets usable for the global research community. Your work will involve creating and maintaining software for multimodal data handling, registration and analysis, advancing the OME-Zarr data standard, and deploying processing pipelines to high-performance computing systems. You will also support ESRF teams in ensuring smooth acquisition and handling of imaging data and contribute to shaping the future development roadmap of the HOA. This post is funded in the first instance for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. The Senior Research Software Engineer in Bio-Imaging/ Research Software Engineer in Bio-Imaging, grade 7 or 8 depending on experience. A full job description and person specification are available at the bottom of this page.
You will have a PhD or equivalent professional research experience and substantial experience working in Linux or UNIX environments. You should be highly proficient in Python and familiar with software development best practice, including testing, documentation and version control. Experience in image analysis or image processing is essential, along with evidence of producing high-quality technical documentation and contributing to complex technical projects within collaborative teams.
