Research Specialist In Single-Cell Genomics And Malaria

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. Our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

As a research specialist with us you will have an opportunity to develop and apply single cell -omics to define host immune response during malaria infection in longitudinal cohort samples.

Description Of The Subject Area

Developing and application of single cell transcriptomics (-omics) to understand host immune response during malaria infection.

Your Mission

You will become a part of a highly dedicated and international team, focused on innovative research in single-cell (-omics) technologies in malaria with a broader objective of using an integrated approach towards the elimination of the disease in endemic countries.

The main work duties are:

• Performing state-of-the-art single-cell sequencing experiments on different platforms (e.g. 10X Chromium, Parse Biosciences, Smart-seq, etc).
• Analyzing next-generation sequencing data, preferably WGS/WES data from field samples.
• Processing raw sequencing data to generate gene expression profiles, perform clustering of cell populations, and analyze trajectory/lineage, often using R, Python, or specialized bioinformatics tools
• Handling, managing and processing field samples.
• Providing expertise and advice to researchers and students on single cell technologies and analysis.
• Writing manuscripts and applying for grants.

Development and implementation of new methods for NGS-based single-cell and spatial tissue analyses

Eligibility Requirements

For employment as Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented postdoctoral research experience.

• A PhD in Computational biology/Genomics/Bioinformatics or equivalent.
• A proven experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data, preferably WGS/WES data from field samples. Processing raw sequencing data to generate gene expression profiles, perform clustering of cell populations, and analyze trajectory/lineage, often using R, Python, or specialized bioinformatics tools.
• In-depth understanding and working with single-cell sequencing data from different molecular modalities.
• In-depth understanding and interest in malaria research.
• At least three publications in which you played a leading or major role in the analysis of sequencing data.
• Previous experience working in communities living in malaria-endemic regions and setting up longitudinal cohorts, sample collection and processing.
• A strong collaborative attitude with the ability to thrive in multicultural settings and possibility of traveling abroad for field-based research.
• Ability to independently organize your own work routine and flexibly adapt your weekly schedule to emerging requests.
• Fluency in oral and written English.
