We are looking for a Research Technician II to join Dr. Mustafa Mir’s lab at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and The University of Pennsylvania. The Mir lab develops and applies advanced light microscopy methods, genomics, and gene editing, to study the molecular scale kinetics of how gene expression is regulated during early embryonic development and in disease. We offer a fast-paced environment with a strong emphasis on curiosity driven research. We are a collaborative and interdisciplinary team and there is ample opportunity to learn new techniques and be involved in exciting science using cutting-edge techniques. The lab is a part of the Center for Computational and Genomic Medicine at CHOP and the Cell and Developmental Biology Department and The Epigenetics Institute at Penn. For more information about the lab please see
In this role, you will work collaboratively with the Mir lab. Regulating when and where genes are expressed is essential to the proper development and health of all life. The remarkably robust nature of this regulation is illustrated during embryonic development where individual cells make decisions to lay out the future body plan of an animal. Mustafa Mir and his lab develop and apply new microscopes to directly visualize the molecular scale events that underlie gene expression within live embryos. By interrogating these events in their native contexts, the Mir lab aims to build a quantitative understanding of how gene expression is regulated and new approaches to correct it when it goes awry.
The ideal candidate is extremely organized, detail oriented, curious, and motivated, with at least a bachelor’s degree in molecular and cell biology or a related field and previous experience working in a lab setting. Comfort with standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid extraction, Western Blotting, molecular cloning) and proven ability to work in a team are critical. Previous experience with Drosophila and/or mouse husbandry is highly desired. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to several projects and resulting co-authorship on papers.
