The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focusing on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer interactions between medical research and health care.

Duties: The project is focused on vascular permeability and the implementation of a new form of treatment for excessive vascular permeability in eye disease. The tasks include the following:

• Injection of inhibitory substance into skin (so-called Miles assay) or eyes (intravitreal) of rodent models, followed by monitoring of leakage of circulating fluorescent substances into the tissue.
• Extraction, fixation, and immunostaining of tissues followed by microscopy.
• Visualization of molecular interactions in tissues and cell culture, for example through so-called proximity ligation.
• Investigation of signal transduction in tissues by injection of agonists into the circulation, followed by extraction of blood vessel cells (endothelium) and biochemical analysis.
• Genotyping and breeding planning of rodent strains.
• Compilation and statistical analysis of the results, presentation orally and in writing.

Requirements: Excellent theoretical insights and practical experience of methods for analysis of blood vessel function, especially with regard to blood vessel leakage in the skin and eye. Excellent skills in statistical analysis methods. Very good knowledge in advanced confocal microscopy. Excellent social skills, initiative capacity, ability for critical thinking and troubleshooting. Good verbal and written communication in English.

About the employment: The employment is a permanent position, probationary period may be applied. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
