Researcher in Human–Computer Interaction with a Focus on Digital Healthcare

Are you interested in research on designing and evaluating digital health interventions in an interdisciplinary research environment? The Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University invites applications for a part-time position as Researcher in Human–Computer Interaction, with a focus on web-based applications to support informal caregivers of individuals with head and neck cancer.

The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third largest department, with 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 PhD students. Approximately 5,000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the department each year.

Duties: The position is linked to the ongoing interdisciplinary research project Carer eSupport, which aims to design, develop, and evaluate a web-based application that supports the well-being and preparedness of informal caregivers in cancer care.

The duties include:

• Conducting research on the design and evaluation of digital health interventions using human-centred design methods
• Contributing to the ongoing randomised controlled trial evaluating Carer eSupport
• Analysing qualitative and quantitative research data
• Further develop and refine the theoretical framework that integrates human-centred design with healthcare research methodologies in the context of digital health interventions.
• Preparing and publishing scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals
• Contributing to dissemination activities

The work will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers in HCI, software engineering, healthcare sciences, and cancer nursing.

Requirements: The applicant must:

• Hold, or be expected to have completed before the start of employment, a PhD in Human–Computer Interaction, Information Technology, Informatics, or a closely related field
• Have documented experience in human-centred design and evaluation of digital health technologies
• Have experience conducting randomised controlled trials in healthcare or digital health contexts
• Have experience publishing in international peer-reviewed journals
• Have good oral and written proficiency in English as well as in Swedish

Additional qualifications:

• Demonstrate strong competence in qualitative research methods, such as thematic analysis and interview studies.
• Experience with technology acceptance models and research on designing for well-being
• Experience in technical administration of web platforms

About the employment: The employment is a fixed-term position, 9 months. Scope of employment 20%. Starting date 1 April 2026 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
