The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical department with approximately 250 employees and more than 900 individuals affiliated through Uppsala University Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups across a wide range of fields. Research is conducted in close collaboration with the clinical activities at Uppsala University Hospital and includes both basic studies on disease mechanisms and the development and evaluation of improved diagnostic methods and new treatment strategies.
Duties
The research group in Clinical Neurophysiology conducts translational research aimed at optimizing diagnostics, follow-up, and pathophysiological characterization of diseases caused by impaired neuromuscular transmission. The current research project aims to investigate disease mechanisms in the autoimmune neuromuscular disorder Myasthenia Gravis (MG) using an in vitro model system of human nerve and muscle cells.
The position involves electrophysiological analysis using multi-electrode array systems (MEA) of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) differentiated into nerve and muscle cells. Supervision of students is also included in the duties.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a researcher in neurophysiology, applicants must hold a PhD degree in in vitro neurophysiological methods. The position requires documented experience in working with human iPSC cell cultures, electrophysiological recordings including calcium signaling and analysis, as well as advanced microscopy techniques.
Additional qualifications
Publications in international peer-reviewed journals within neurophysiology are highly valued, as is documented ability to work independently and experience working with nerve or muscle cells. Excellent proficiency in English is considered an asset.
About the position
The position is temporary for 3 months, from 1 July to 30 September 2026. The scope of the position is 100%. Starting date as agreed. Location: Uppsala, Sweden.
