The Department of Chemistry – Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 270 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. Duties

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research environment at the interface of materials chemistry, nanotechnology, and applied energy systems. The work will focus on the development and deployment of plasmonic nano-coatings for heat management in buildings, vehicles, and photovoltaic systems.

The main duties include:

• Design, synthesis, and optimization of plasmonic nanomaterials and thin-film coatings.
• Physicochemical characterization of materials (structural, optical, electrochemical, and surface analysis).
• Application of AI/data-driven approaches (e.g., design of experiments, machine learning) to accelerate materials development.
• Testing and validation of coatings under relevant environmental and operational conditions.
• Collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
• Supervision of students and contribution to a collaborative research environment.
• Dissemination of results through scientific publications and presentations

Requirements

Education

• PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Specialization in nanomaterials, electrochemistry, thin films, or energy materials

Experience

• Experience in nanoparticle synthesis and/or thin-film deposition.
• Experience with energy materials, plasmonics, or photovoltaic systems.
• Ability to bridge fundamental research and applied/industrial implementation.
• Experience with experimental design and data analysis.
• Experience working in interdisciplinary and/or international environments.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, spectroscopy, electrochemistry).
• Experience or interest in AI/machine learning for materials development.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Python (required).
• Good knowledge of data processing and visualization tools.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

About the Employment
