Position Description

Researcher Position – Adult Division

The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, in conjunction with the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, currently has an opening for an Researcher to join the Adult Division. We are looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful, and dedicated researcher with proven expertise in social-cognitive neuroscience of psychosis using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) to study the neural mechanisms that underlie perceptual, cognitive and social processing deficits in psychotic disorders. The successful candidate will be expected to have already established an independent research program and existing collaborations with investigators throughout the university, working on problems of social cognition and social neuroscience of psychosis. A special focus of this position will be the use of innovative research methods, including the development and application of novel fMRI paradigms and specialized data analytic techniques for resulting data to study social and emotional processing in psychosis. The position will also have a focus on remote data collection in participants' natural environment using mobile technology (i.e., digital phenotyping). Using other advanced neuroscientific research methods, including EEG and eye-tracking (e.g., pupillometry), the candidate will also be expected to study deficits in perception, attention, inter-brain synchrony, and cognition that may relate to social processing deficits in psychosis. Commitment to research is required.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology or Neuroscience or a closely related field and demonstrated research excellence in the study of brain function and structure using EEG and MRI. Experience in structural and functional MRI, EEG, eye-tracking, digital phenotyping, and advanced statistical methods are highly desirable. A commitment to research and teaching with the express goal of mentoring and advising of trainees from underrepresented and underserved populations is important. A proven track‐record of extramural funding, including support from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veteran Affairs, is desirable.

Salary will be consistent with the UCLA Researcher Series. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 37-B. The salary range for this position is $136,400 – $229,200 annually.
