Postdoctoral Research Associate – Semiconductor Optics Full-time NEW
Position Summary
A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the Department of Materials Science & NanoEngineering at Rice University, with a focus on optical characterization of semiconductor low-dimensional materials for quantum applications.
We are seeking independent and creative candidates to join our multidisciplinary research team. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have a strong track record. He/she will be responsible for conducting research related to molecular engineering of semiconductor low-dimensional materials with the goal of optimizing their electronic structures and optical properties for quantum applications. The successful candidate will perform advanced spectroscopic studies of the materials at room and cryogenic temperatures. Candidates with strong background in chemistry and photophysics of low-dimensional materials, quantum optics, and nanophotonics are highly encouraged to apply. The selected individual will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and gain in-depth knowledge of research frontiers in the fields of quantum materials and quantum optics.
Requirements
• Hands-on experience with low-dimensional semiconductor materials and their processing is desired.
• A strong background in quantum optics, nanophotonics, or magneto-optical spectroscopy is preferred.
• Previous experience in conducting measurements at cryogenic temperatures is a plus but not required.
• Knowledge of nanofabrication and the related simulation tools (COMSOL, FDTD etc.), as well as programing languages such as LabVIEW, Python, Matlab is desired but not required.
• Excellent written and oral communication as well as data analysis skills.
• Strong skills in collaboration and ability to work independently.
Preferences
Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in chemistry, physics, material science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
