São Carlos Institute of Physics, University of São Paulo (USP), São Carlos 13560-970, SP, Brazil and Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM)
The Instituto de Física de São Carlos (IFSC/USP), in collaboration with the Laboratório Nacional de Nanotecnologia (LNNano/CNPEM), invites applications for a PhD fellowship within the Graduate Program in Physics at IFSC/USP. This opportunity is aimed at candidates interested in the development of semiconductor materials for energy conversion, with a particular focus on sustainable hydrogen production. The selected candidate will work on a research project dedicated to the design and optimization of semiconductor photoanodes for photoelectrochemical systems. The project emphasizes the development of tandem devices for efficient green hydrogen generation. This is a joint research initiative between the Laboratory of Nanomaterials and Advanced Ceramics (NaCA) at IFSC/USP (São Carlos) and LNNano/CNPEM (Campinas). While the student will be formally enrolled in the Graduate Program in Physics at USP (São Carlos) and complete their coursework there, the majority of experimental research activities will be conducted at LNNano/CNPEM (Campinas). The research will focus on key challenges in photoelectrochemical energy conversion, including enhancing charge carrier transport, minimizing recombination losses, and improving both the efficiency and long-term stability of the developed materials. The project will be supervised by Flávio Leandro de Souza (LNNano/CNPEM) and Renato Vitalino Gonçalves (IFSC/USP), providing a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment.
Important: Applications must be submitted exclusively by email.
