Discover impactful work: As a Bioinformatician based in our CAP/CLIA-certified lab, you will support the development and implementation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) based assays within the Clinical Sequencing Division. You will apply your expertise in bioinformatics, Python programming, and Unix/Linux systems to develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines, analyze complex genomic data, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support clinical validations and data management tasks. Your work will directly contribute to advancing precision medicine and improving patient outcomes.

A Day in the Life:

• Pipeline Development and Maintenance: Develop, optimize, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines and tools using Python and other relevant scripting languages on Linux-based platforms.
• Data Analysis: Perform data analysis and interpretation of high-throughput sequencing data, including DNA, RNA, and cell-free total nucleic acid datasets.
• Clinical Validations: Support prospective and retrospective clinical validations, ensuring compliance with CAP/CLIA standards.
• LIMS Integration: Integrate bioinformatics workflows with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to enhance data tracking and management.
• Quality Control: Implement QC tracking and trending processes to ensure data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including laboratory scientists, clinical researchers, regulatory professionals, and software developers, to design and implement bioinformatics solutions that meet project requirements.
• Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to data processing and analysis, ensuring timely and accurate results.
• Documentation: Record workflows, pipelines, and analysis results in an easily understood and replicable manner, following established principles in scientific research.
• Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics, genomics, and computational biology, and apply this knowledge to improve existing pipelines and develop new solutions.

Keys to Success:

• Bachelors Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field required.
• 5+ years of experience in bioinformatics, with a focus on NGS and clinical applications.
• Established track record with Python programming, bash scripting, Unix/Linux systems, next-generation sequencing analysis, and somatic oncology genomics.
• Strong understanding of bioinformatics tools and algorithms, including sequence alignment, variant calling, and functional annotation.
• Experience with high-throughput sequencing data analysis (e.g., NGS, RNA-Seq, WGS, etc.).
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., GitHub).
• Experience working in regulated environments and familiarity with CAP/CLIA regulatory compliance and quality assurance standards.
• Experience with LIMS integration and data management systems.
• Familiarity with NGS platforms such as Ion Torrent, Illumina, and Element.

• Outstanding problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent documentation skills, with the ability to write clear and reproducible workflows.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
• Knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
• Familiarity with databases and data management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $95,900.00–$143,825.00.
