Lead discovery and protein engineering within a multi-functional biotherapeutic discovery team. This work will take place in our Display-based Discovery and Optimisation Group which is part of the global BioMedicine Design (BMD) group. Our laboratory is located at Grange Castle in Dublin, Ireland and focuses on the application of advanced protein engineering technologies towards the discovery and optimisation of novel protein therapeutics, with a particular emphasis on monoclonal antibodies. Pfizer is a leader in the development of protein biopharmaceuticals and has a successful track record of multiple product approvals in Cancer, Inflammation and Cardiovascular disease. Scientist (R3) reporting to Senior Principal Scientist (R6)
Perform hit discovery and engineering work (including phage & yeast display technologies, antibody library construction and selection, functional screening & sequencing of key leads), within a matrixed team of researchers.
Perform trouble-shooting and resolution of experimental issues.
Facilitate cross-functional project teams internally within BioMedicine Design (BMD)-Dublin, across BMD and between BMD and Pfizer R&D research units.
Implement effective technology development & continuous process development to ensure success on drug discovery programs.
Develop and maintain productive links with colleagues across R&D, and in the external scientific community, to maintain current information, skills and knowledge.
Compile and deliver presentations to proactively communicate results and progress to project teams.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of experimental work and results in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) system.
Minimum qualification BSc or MSc degree in Biotechnology, Molecular biology or equivalent relevant discipline.
Experience in a biotechnology research environment is preferred.
Previous experience with protein characterisation is desirable.
The position will require proven molecular biology skills (RNA isolation, PCR, DNA cloning)
Experience with high-throughput automation is an advantage.
Functional knowledge and experience of protein display technologies and the use of recombinant antibody libraries in particular is preferred.
Proven ability to organise and conduct experimental research.
