Postdoctoral Researcher

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

The NTU LKC Nutrition, Metabolic and Microbiome Medicine is a research programme that sits in the epicentre of the Novena Health City to reflect our research and clinical partnerships within as well as outside Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) and the National Healthcare Group (NHG). The key objective is to support efforts to understand the developmental and environmental basis of obesity, diabetes, related gut and metabolic disorders and to translate this understanding into disease alleviation and prevention so as to maximise our human potential. Our laboratory is located at Clinical Science Building (CSB) at the Novena campus of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our lab in exploring the protective mechanisms of ketone body against atherosclerosis. This role will significantly contribute to advancing our understanding of gut microbiota's impact on cardiovascular health, aligning with NTU's mission to drive innovative research for societal benefit.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out an independent research project and collaborate with other researchers.
• Supervise junior members of the lab, including PhD students and undergraduate interns.
• Keep a log of lab material and conduct safety management and data management as necessary.
• Present research at lab meetings and national/international conferences.

Competencies and Qualifications Requirements:

• PhD in Biological Sciences or equivalent in any relevant field of life sciences with a demonstrated record of excellent problem-solving skills.
• Years of experience in disease-oriented molecular biology (preferably atherosclerosis) using mouse models.
• Deep knowledge and interest in metabolism, atherosclerosis and/or microbiome biology.
• Strong research experience and relevant skill sets in biomedical sciences (molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, animal handling, etc).
• Experience in mentoring and training junior researchers and students.
• Highly self-motivated and independent researcher with enthusiasm for research.
• Strong team player with excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.
• Strong motivation and leadership in pursuing challenging scientific questions.
• Be able to work independently and collaborate efficiently in a highly diverse and interdisciplinary team.
