The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.

Position Available: Senior Research Fellow

The laboratory of Assoc. Prof. Massimo Pica Ciamarra at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Fellow to play a leading role in advancing a project at the interface of statistical physics, soft matter, and biological physics. The successful candidate will contribute to the theoretical and computational investigation of the relaxation dynamics in glass-forming systems, with a focus on both molecular liquids and biological systems such as epithelial tissues.

The position will involve developing and applying advanced theoretical frameworks, numerical simulations, and statistical mechanics methodologies to address fundamental questions related to the microscopic mechanisms governing slow relaxation, structural heterogeneity, and emergent collective dynamics. By bridging concepts from condensed matter physics and biological physics, the project aims to uncover unifying principles of glassy dynamics and provide novel insights into the organization and mechanical properties of living tissues.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive original research directions within the scope of the project.
• Design, implement, and analyze large-scale numerical simulations.
• Collaborate with experimental partners where relevant.
• Contribute to high-impact publications and the dissemination of results at international conferences.
• Mentor junior researchers and students in the laboratory.

Job Requirements

• A PhD degree in Physics or related areas, with focus on statistical physics
• Experience in the investigation of glassy and disordered systems
• As the position requires stakeholder engagement in English, candidate must be fluent in English
• Strong publication record
