At our Schaffhausen site, about 150 people work for the global Johnson&Johnson Innovative Medicine Research & Development organization developing innovative treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide.

The Analytical Development organization in Schaffhausen provides highly specialized support for marketed products, fill-finish pilot plant activities for biotherapeutics, manufacturing analytics, and device characterization. We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Scientist (100%) in this position, you will support and further develop the Center of Excellence (CoE) in the field of material identification and characterization.

You will conduct analytical assay development and provide analytical support for particle characterization and identification, ensuring high-quality, scientifically sound, and timely delivery. This includes conducting material defect and particle investigations using highly specialized, state-of-the-art technologies. You will execute the corresponding analyses, write scientifically sound technical investigation reports in a GMP-regulated environment, and evaluate new analytical technologies to broaden the particle identification technology portfolio.

As part of an international and multidisciplinary team (15 people), you will participate in strategic project meetings, provide scientific data to support decision-making, and independently plan activities in close collaboration with local management.

Responsibilities:

• Support and further shape the Center of Excellence (CoE) for aggregation, particle, and material identification and characterization
• Drive innovation and develop new analytical assays for particle forensics
• Work with high-end identification equipment such as MS, Raman, LIBS, SEM-EDX, FT-IR, and various light microscopy techniques
• Understand the processes and urgency involved in conducting complex investigations with global impact
• Write scientifically sound, concise investigation reports and prepare presentations in English
• Work in a team-oriented environment and actively foster a culture of diversity and inclusion

Profile:

• M.S. or Ph.D. in life sciences, (bio-)engineering, analytical sciences, or pharmaceutical sciences
• Proven experience in mass spectrometry and protein characterization
• Experience in analytical development or engineering sciences; strong emphasis on large-molecule assays in a pharmaceutical or other GMP-regulated industry is a plus
• Self-starter and problem solver with the determination to achieve common goals and challenge the status quo
• Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels and positively impact productivity and business results
• A strong team player with scientific curiosity and dedication
