Role Summary

Within the Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU), one of the key focus areas of the Metabolism group is identifying novel therapies to improve metabolic outcomes in patients suffering from obesity. Our goal is to identify a team focused candidate with a deep mechanistic understanding of energy metabolism in the context of metabolic dysfunction. The scientific focus of this lab-based role is to identify critical metabolic pathways in obesity and weight maintenance using in vivo models with the goal of developing novel therapies. In addition to drug discovery interests, publication in high-impact journals and presentation of research is encouraged. The candidate will have daily interactions with a team of creative and innovative scientists in a supportive environment for rigorous scientific and drug development training. Strong self-motivation, extensive in vivo experience, excellent communication interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.

Role Responsibilities

1. Apply creative thinking and scientific expertise to the formulation of strategies to identify and validate therapeutic targets in key areas of interest to the Internal Medicine Research Unit.
2. Maintain an awareness of 'cutting edge' scientific and technical developments in preclinical to clinical translation and apply these where possible to advance the portfolio programs.
3. Conceptualize, design and execute in vivo studies (including preparation, data collection, interpretation, and presentation)
4. Quantify and translate experimental results to advance the understanding of how metabolic pathways and complex physiological systems are altered by diseases and how they respond to therapeutic interventions
5. Present research findings to Pfizer colleagues, including leadership, and the external scientific community through publication in peer-reviewed journals and talks and posters at scientific meetings.
6. Ensure that all research/discovery work is conducted with highest quality and ethical guidelines and in accordance with relevant regulatory, QC, and compliance guidelines.
7. Mentor junior scientists in developing skills essential to the execution of rigorous scientific research

Qualifications

• PhD with post-doc experience in relevant field, M.S. with 7+ years relevant experience, OR B.S. with 9+ years of relevant experience
• Demonstrated ability to review critically available data and to think creatively in formulating novel hypotheses.
• Successful record of scientific accomplishments as indicated by scientific publications and presentations.
• Deep expertise in preclinical rodent physiology and pharmacology
• The candidate should be able to work independently as well as with an interdisciplinary team of scientists in a highly collaborative environment.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to multiple projects in parallel with learning agility and scientific rigor.
• Strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with scientists working in other disciplines.
• Strong self-motivation
