Senior Scientist

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Senior Scientist to join our New Therapeutic Modality team located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The Senior Scientist will design and execute independent research that supports R&D projects specifically in the intravitreal drug delivery (IVT) area. The Senior Scientist is primarily responsible for performing and managing scientific and technical activities, which may also include responsibility for the management of scientific staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Independently perform scientific experiments with a predefined goal using minimum resources and delivering high scientific quality. • Lead formulation and process development for IVT extended-release/long-acting drug delivery systems. • Identify and investigate critical material attributes and critical process parameters; apply QbD principles and DOE approaches to define robust design spaces. • Assess formulation performance via in vitro and ex vivo testing. Develop and interpret in vitro data to better understand in-vitro in-vivo correlations (IVIVC). • Develop new methodologies and advanced analytical methods for microstructure characterization of complex IVT drug delivery platforms. • Develop an understanding of R&D team goals and collaborate effectively as team representative with internal key stakeholders and CDMOs in multidisciplinary teams to define and achieve project deliverables in a timely manner. • Responsible for lab/group operations. May direct and oversee experimental design and results of technicians and junior level scientists. Assumes responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff. • Prepare clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Effectively communicate own and/or team´s work and deliver project updates to senior level management clearly in oral and written forms in the context of project goals. • Keep abreast of relevant literature and maintain a high level of expertise in own field. Develop and maintain visibility through presentations and publications. Take the lead in publications and patents when needed. • Understand current national and international regulations and legal requirements as well as relevant BI policies and procedures; Apply knowledge to ensure safe and compliant practices, manage risk, and maximize opportunities for projects to succeed. • Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science, Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other related field. • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of sustained release drug delivery systems. • Previous experience with intravitreal (IVT) drug delivery systems is strongly preferred. • Self-motivated with strong learning abilities. • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an interdisciplinary environment • May require an ability to push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50lbs. • May require ability to wear a Respirator.

Eligibility Requirements: • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction. • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required) • Must be 18 years of age or older

Compensation Data

This position offers a base salary typically between $140,000.00 and $222,000.00 USD. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements.
