The Department of Chemistry is seeking a reliable and well-organised Stores Technician to support the day-to-day operation of the Department's stores service. This important role will be responsible for the receipt, checking, processing and issue of goods, ensuring deliveries and stock are handled accurately, safely, and in a timely manner. The post-holder will support the smooth running of the stores function by maintaining accurate records on Oracle R12, notifying requesters when items are available, and ensuring all goods are stored appropriately in line with health and safety requirements.
The role includes handling specialist materials such as acids, solvents, and gas cylinders, and supporting the safe management of waste solvents in collaboration with Logistics and Waste Solvent colleagues. You will also manage returns, monitor stock levels, and help maintain a high standard of customer service for staff and students across the Department.
You will have previous experience in stock management, strong attention to detail, and a good understanding of health and safety legislation, including COSHH and Manual Handling Regulations. You should be confident using Microsoft Office and email, and able to work efficiently in a busy environment with a professional and responsive approach. Experience of Oracle systems (such as R12), formal health and safety training, and a full driving licence would be advantageous. The role includes regular manual handling and is subject to pre-employment health screening.
