Tenure Track Faculty Position – Indigenous Scholar In Kinesiology Or Leisure Studies

The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta invites applications from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Scholars for the position of tenure track Assistant Professor. Scholarship must be approached from among a range of underlying disciplines within the broad areas of Kinesiology and Leisure Studies. This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative and robust externally-funded research program, teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and provide service to the Faculty and the University, as well as to professional and external communities. The successful candidate will have the capacity to teach courses in an area of instructional need (e.g., anatomy, adapted physical activity, biomechanics, Indigenous certificate, motor learning/development, pedagogy/movement, recreation and leisure). Candidates must be First Nations, Métis, or Inuit, and preference will be given to Indigenous scholars who research and teach from lived experience and/or using Indigenous knowledges and methodologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Candidates must be First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.
• Candidates must hold a PhD in Kinesiology, Leisure Studies, or a related discipline at the negotiated start date of the appointment.
• Candidates must have capacity to teach courses in an area of instructional need.
