Tenured or Tenure-track Faculty Positions in Environmental Engineering, Science, and Public Health Focused on the Utilization of Data Science (DS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools for Research Applications

The Johns Hopkins University's Department of Environmental Health & Engineering, in cooperation with the new Johns Hopkins Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DS/AI) Institute, seeks applicants for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions focused on leveraging and developing DS and AI tools for environmental engineering, science, and public health applications. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research harnessing and creating new DS/AI/deep learning/machine learning/big data tools, and strong fundamental training in environmental engineering/science, hydrology, atmospheric science, environmental chemistry/microbiology, or related discipline.

Although we will consider candidates who work in any environmental topical area, we specifically seek candidates in three thrust areas:

• Systems Analysis and Optimization for Sustainable Environment and Natural Resources Management
• Harnessing Data Science/Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning/Deep Learning/Big Data for Understanding Earth System Changes to Inform Planning for Adaptation and Resilience
• Data Science/Artificial Intelligence Applications in Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology

Applications are particularly welcome from candidates who have demonstrated expertise in developing new DS/AI methods that would be of potential utility in other engineering and science fields, and who would be qualified for joint appointments in one of the three core departments of the new JHU DS and AI Institute.

The Whiting School of Engineering comprises over 200 full time tenure-track, research, and teaching-track faculty in nine academic programs with a total annual research budget of over $170 million. The Bloomberg School of Public Health is the number 1 ranked public health school in the country with over 670 full time tenure-track faculty in 10 academic departments with an annual budget of over $500 million.

Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in an appropriate field by the time their appointment begins. Candidates must have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding independent research and establish a strong internationally recognized research program. Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse body of students at all levels is required.
