The Loerch Lab at UC Santa Cruz is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with strong training in protein biochemistry to drive the sample preparation and mechanistic assays that underpin our structural studies of localized translation and its regulation in human disease, with an emphasis on pain pathways. The role centers on construct design, protein expression in bacterial/insect/mammalian systems, purification and complex reconstitution, and development of quantitative activity/binding/kinase assays, as well as partnering with team members to move high-quality samples through structure determination workflows. Experience with cell culture and molecular biology is desirable; familiarity with structural techniques is helpful but not required. We offer a collaborative environment within UCSC’s Center for Molecular Biology of RNA, with excellent access to instrumentation and campus core facilities.
