Description
The Lujan Lab in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at UIC is seeking a full-time Visiting Research Specialist. We are looking for a motivated, organized, and hands-on individual to support ongoing projects investigating how neuromodulatory systems—such as dopamine, endocannabinoids, and oxytocin—shape motivated behavior, neurodevelopment, and relapse.
The position involves conducting behavioral assays, managing a transgenic mouse colony, setting up experimental equipment, performing immunohistochemistry, and assisting with surgeries and other lab procedures. You’ll work as part of a dynamic team using techniques that include operant behavior testing, microscopy, stereotaxic surgery, and computational modeling. Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct behavioral analysis and maintain equipment.
Perform IHC analysis
Manage a mouse colony and genotyping.
Maintain detailed colony spread sheets.
Work as part of a team to generate mice for projects on defined schedules.
Inject mice with different treatments.
Ensure that laboratory procedures comply with all safety requirements.
Perform mouse surgery.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications: Experience in mouse behavior (especially operant chambers) and tissue collection (perfusions, brain dissection) is essential.
Experience in stereotaxic surgical procedures, mouse treatments and colony management is preferred.
Enthusiasm for learning and gaining research and lab management experience, and the ability to coordinate and supervise others effectively are the most critical requirements of the position. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and organized, and strong communication skills are a must. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, neurosciences or other related fields and 3 years of experience.

The salary range of employees currently holding equivalent positions is $43,888 to $65,000.
