Lab Manager Position | The Hattie Chung Lab
The Hattie Chung Lab at Yale School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Lab Manager (PhD or MS level) to play a central role in advancing an interdisciplinary research program at the interface of systems biology, genomics, and tissue biology. This is a high-impact position for a scientifically engaged and highly organized individual who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The Lab Manager will serve as a key staff member to the PI, supporting both the execution of cutting-edge research and the day-to-day operations that enable the lab to run efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities
On the scientific side, the role involves contributing to the design and execution of experiments, analyzing and organizing data, and communicating results within the lab. Projects span next-generation sequencing, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, high-content imaging, and molecular and tissue biology approaches, including PCR, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, and animal models. The Lab Manager will work closely with postdoctoral fellows and students to help advance their projects, and contributions will be recognized through authorship on publications.
Equally important, this role ensures operational excellence across the lab. Approximately 25% of effort will be dedicated to managing laboratory logistics, including inventory and ordering, regulatory compliance, and oversight of animal protocols. The Lab Manager will interface with institutional offices (e.g., EHS), coordinate with external vendors, and onboard and train new lab members. A key aspect of the role is executing on priorities delegated by the PI to maintain alignment, continuity, and momentum across projects.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, solutions-oriented scientist with strong technical expertise in molecular and tissue biology, and experience supporting or developing platforms in next-generation sequencing and/or imaging. They are detail-oriented, reliable, and take ownership of both scientific and operational responsibilities. Just as importantly, they are committed to fostering a professional, respectful, and collaborative lab environment.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a growing, interdisciplinary lab, shape its operational and scientific trajectory, and work closely with a dynamic team of trainees and collaborators at Yale.
