The research at IBG-4 focuses on scientific objectives that can be addressed using nuclear magnetic resonance. The Muhle-Goll Laboratory applies NMR spectroscopy to biological and medical questions and has extensive experience in metabolomic analysis.
As part of the project, complex traits and their potential interactions in medaka fish are being investigated. Eighty nearly homozygous fish lines are being phenotyped for their voluntary swimming activity and analyzed using RNA sequencing and NMR metabolomic fingerprinting. RNA sequencing of various tissues will be performed to identify metabolic differences, and behavioral phenotyping will be conducted using open-field and swim-tunnel tests. The extracts from the respective tissues will be examined for characteristic differences using NMR spectroscopy and statistically evaluated.
